About bowling

How is bowling scored?

You add up the pins you knock down in each frame, and strikes and spares earn the next balls as a bonus. A game is ten frames and you throw up to twice per frame. A spare scores 10 plus the next ball, a strike scores 10 plus the next two. A strike or spare in the tenth frame earns bonus balls, and twelve strikes in a row make 300.

What is the difference between a strike and a spare?

Knocking all ten pins down with the first ball is a strike, taking two balls to do it is a spare. A strike ends the frame there, and it earns one more bonus ball than a spare.

Why does the ball hook?

Because the front of the lane is oiled and the part near the pins is dry. The ball skids across the oil, and once it reaches the dry boards the spin grips and it hooks. This game runs that same stretch through a physics engine. The more spin you give it, the more it hooks.

About this game

Can I play without installing anything?

Yes. Open the address in a browser and it starts. There is nothing to download or install, and it is free.

Does it work on a phone?

It does. You aim and throw with the mouse on a desktop and with touch on phones and tablets. On a narrow screen the scoresheet folds into two rows.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Press Play, take a lane in the lobby that opens and press Share with friends to get an invite link. Whoever opens the link takes an empty seat in your room. A room seats four, and you can put AI in the empty seats.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play every mode without one. Only your records, achievements and ball skins live in an account and follow you to another device. Signing up takes a username and a password, no email address. Instead you get eight recovery words to use if you forget the password.
